Dealing With Finger Pain
Finger soreness is normal for the first 2–4 weeks. Your fingertips are developing calluses. Practise for 15–20 minutes, rest, then continue. Do not push through sharp pain — that indicates something is wrong with posture or guitar setup.
- Practice shorter sessions more frequently rather than one long painful session
- Check your guitar's action — high action makes soreness much worse
- Classical and electric guitars have lower-tension strings and are gentler on fingers
- After 3–4 weeks of regular practice, fingertip pain disappears entirely
How to Break Through a Plateau
Every guitarist hits a plateau where progress stalls. When this happens:
- Learn a song that is slightly above your current level — it forces growth
- Focus on one specific technique for 2 weeks instead of general practice
- Play with a metronome at 60% of your normal speed — precision reveals weaknesses
- Take a lesson — even one session with a teacher can break months of plateau
